1. "Тринадцатая сказка" Д.Сеттерфилд.
Наверное, все слышали об этом увлекательнейшем романе-дебюте Дианы Сеттерфилд. С какими только писателями британская пресса не сравнивала ее стиль: и с Диккенсом, и с Дюморье, и с сестрами Бронте. И хотя я абсолютно не фанат ни одной из сестер Бронте и, как мне кажется, от них в книге есть разве что пронзительная история любви - я совершенно точно могу посоветовать эту жутковатую, интригующую и захватывающую "Тринадцатую сказку". Если только вы не боитесь провести несколько бессонных ночей.
1. "The Thirteenth Tale" by D.Setterfield.
Everyone has heard probably about this fascinating debut novel by Diane Setterfield. The British press has compared the style of Diane with a lot of other writers: with Dickens, with du Maurier and with the Bronte sisters as well. And although I'm absolutely not a fan of any of the Bronte sisters, and I think that in the book there is perhaps only the poignant love story kind of inspired by them - I can definitely recommend this eerie, intriguing and exciting "The Thirteenth Tale". Unless you're not afraid to spend a few sleepless nights.

2. "Багровый лепесток и белый" М.Фабер
Странным на первый взгляд названием роман обязан стихотворению Альфреда Теннисона "Now sleeps the Crimson Petal", что вполне соответствует настроению эпохи королевы Виктории, которой и посвящено произведение Фабера. Центральная линия - сложные взаимоотношения между парфюмером Уильямом Рекхэмом с его малахольной женой Агнес (образ "белого" лепестка), нелюдимой дочерью Софи и любовницей-проституткой Конфеткой (соответственно, "багровый" лепесток). Кстати говоря, в 2011 году вышел одноименный мини-сериал с прекрасной Ромолой Гарай в главной роли.
2. "The Crimson Petal and the White" by M.Faber
A strange at first glance title of this novel is obliged to Alfred Tennyson's poem "Now sleeps the Crimson Petal", which is consistent with the mood of the era of Queen Victoria, to which Faber has dedicated his piece. The central line is complex relationship between the perfumer William Rackham with his queer wife Agnes (the image of a "white" petal), his inhospitable daughter Sophie and his mistress-prostitute Sugar (respectively, a "purple" petal). By the way, in 2011, the eponymous mini-series with a lovely Romola Garai in the title role came out.

3. "Ребекка" Д.Дюморье
Наверняка многие смотрели фильм гениального Хичкока "Ребекка". Так вот это - кино адаптация романа Дафны Дюморье. Удивительно, что заглавная героиня, Ребекка, уже мертва. Как и почему она погибла, какое к этому имеет отношение ее бывший супруг, а также стоит ли опасаться за свою жизнь его нынешней жене - узнает тот, кто дочитает до конца этот роман.
3. "Rebecca" by D.Du Maurier
I'm sure, many of you have watched the movie by the genius Hitchcock "Rebecca." So that is the movie adaptation of the novel by Daphne du Maurier. It is surprising that the title character, Rebecca, is already dead. How and why she was killed, what her ex-husband has to do with that accident, as well as whether his current wife has to be scared to lose her life - you'll find out if you read to the end of this novel.
